HI! I'm about to brag about Sophie. So if you don't want to hear me brag, then just stop reading now. :)
Today, we had Sophie's Kindergarten Conference. We were blown away! Right when we sat down, the teacher said, "Sophie is amazing!" (well, we already knew that!) She continued to say that she (and I'm quoting from her writing) "Sophie is very respectful. She always follows rules and procedures."
According to the teacher's many assessments, she is right on target with her letters, sounds, numbers, and writing.
With both Josh and me being teachers, the part we've been waiting for came next! They do an NWEA standardized test (on the computer) to see where the kids fall in a variety of categories. Josh and I are very familiar with this test from our teaching days. They use it to assess the kids and then drive the instruction. As a parent, I like it because I know where she falls in comparison to her peers.
At this point in Kindergarten they want her to be at a score of 146 in Reading.
Sophie scored a 153 - in the 81 percentile (meaning 81% of kids scored less than her).
Sophie scored a 153 - in the 81 percentile (meaning 81% of kids scored less than her).
In Math, they like them to be at 148 at this point.
She scored a 160 - in the 87 percentile (meaning 87% of kids scored less than her).
They break their scores down further into specific categories and then rate them High, HiAvg, Avg, LoAvg, and Low.
This is where she fell:
Problem Solving: High
Number Sense: HiAvg
Computation: High
Measurement & Geometry: HiAvg
Statistics & Probability: High
Algebra: HiAvg
Phonological Awareness: High
Phonics: HiAvg
Concepts of Print: HiAvg
Vocabulary & Word Structure: High
Comprehension: High
Writing: LoAvg (which really surprises me because she writes so much. I wonder how they would assess this on a computer) hmmm.....
SOOOOO, I just had to journal about this!
In conclusion, we are so proud of her! It makes my hard days of working so hard with them worth it.
We are so proud of you, Sophie! We can't wait to see you grow even more this school year!
You should be proud Myah!! Good job Sophie! That is an amazing job.
