Rising Before Your Kids

I'm a big fan of "rising early" and waking before my kids. If I don't, it feels like I'm trying to catch up all day.

This was posted by Simple Mom today, and she discusses the benefits of rising early.

Some of my favorites are exactly what she said:
  • some quiet time without the kids
  • grooming myself for the day
  • housework
  • praying
  • computer (so I don't do it when they're awake)
  • family finances

I have always gotten up before my kids (except during baby-having time) and I HIGHLY recommend it!

Some of my friends "just can't do it" (but they stay up too late I think).

I go to bed by 9:30or10 and get up around 6:30.

What about you?

  1. I LOVE the concept of it, but to do so, I would have to get up at 5:00 since the boys are usually up at 6 or 6:30 (even if we take my 4:00 AM riser out of it!) It's just NOT happening in this season for me....

I think that we are all wired differently, too, and that comes into play. I have ALWAYS been a night owl; my older sister, on the other hand, has always been a morning person! :)

  2. Such a great article...and I've been trying to do better!!! This is an area where I continually fail. I always "think" it's a good idea, but I just can't help but enjoy my time awake at night with my hubby.

And I'm so guilty of staying up too late. We've been making ourselves go to bed earlier!

  3. WEll, here's another night owl for ya! I would much rather have my time at night because that's when I'm most awake. I get more done at night than in the morning, plus, I'm kind of a fan of snuggling in bed with the kids in the morning. However, I think it's great you are able to get up early, I wish I could!

  4. I am a night person too! I have always wanted to be a morning person. If I went to bed at 9:30, then I wouldn't have any time with Anthony... :) But, if I could wake up just half an hour before the kids, it would be nice. On the rare occasion that I do, I do enjoy it. But, I like my nighttime too much to give it up. :)

  5. Josh goes to bed early too (since he gets up at 5:30), so I don't miss out on time with him. We always say, "We're so old!" :) I'm so tired by 9:30 to get any work done!

Just getting my shower before the kids rise is what helps me the most.

  6. It looks like I'm one of the few morning people on here.

For the past several years, I've just gotten into the habit due to my work schedule, and since Max has been born, that's only been reinforced. I just work and focus better in the morning-at night, all I want to do is relax with a book or movie.

I get up at 5 every day; about half of that time, Max also wakes up then, and he watches me work out. Yes, I work out that early because otherwise, I never would! If he happens to sleep in until 6, I have the chance to not only exercise but have a cup of coffee and check my email before heading upstairs. I love the quiet morning!!

As for my bedtime, it's pitiful. I call it my "mommy bedtime". Sometimes it's as early as 8, and if I make it to 10, I'm really proud of myself:)
