"You know I don't like quiche!"

said Sophie as I put dinner on the table last night.

I am not a Mother who cooks only what my children prefer to eat.  I believe it's important to expose them to a wide variety of REAL foods - that have good nutritional value.  Since we are (mostly) vegetarians, I have to be very intentional about what I put on the table each night.

With that said, I don't believe I cook "crazy" things... well, it's not "crazy" to us.

So, I called everyone to the table last evening, and Sophie looked at her plate and exclaimed, "Mooooom, you know I don't like quiche!"

I don't expect everyone to love everything I put on the table.

But, this is what we do expect:

You must take a courtesy bite (or 2).
You never know what you may actually like!

And... are you going to yell, "Mrs. Smith, you know I don't like quiche!" when you get invited to a friend's house for supper?!

Halle wasn't a huge fan either.

I also had roasted potatoes, yogurt and applesauce on their trays.  They ate everything but the quiche.

At bedtime, Halle came down the stairs and said, "I'm hungry."  I said, "You chose not to eat all of your supper, so you can eat at breakfast."

Maybe they'll eat more of the quiche next time.  :)

  1. You go girl! I DO cook crazy things, and expect them to try at least two bites. ("One to try it, and two to make sure.") We tried the approach of letting them make their own pb sandwich if they didn't like what was served. Well, that became way too enticing an option so we cancelled it. Like you, I make sure the sides are nutritional and kid friendly so at least they eat something. Pretty sure our kids aren't going to starve. :~)
