Organic or Not? What to do?

Well, this is what I do.

When planning our garden I considered a few thing:
1. What do we eat a lot of?
2. What is on the "Dirty Dozen" list?
3. What is on the "Clean Fifteen" list that we can just buy at the store, frozen or non-organic?

I got the following lists from Simple Mom. The Dirty Dozen list are fruits and veggies that contain the highest amounts of pesticides and chemicals. If you are going to grow fruits and veggies or buy organic, buy these! The Clean Fifteen contain the lowest amounts of pesticides and chemicals. So, if you can't afford to buy all organic (like us) just buy these frozen or non-organic. Basically, prioritize. So, here you have it! The lists. I have these lists posted on our fridge to keep me focused on what I should buy organic, at Farmer's Markets, or grow in our garden. I hope this helps you!

Dirty Dozen:
Celery
Peaches
Strawberries
Apples
Blueberries
Nectarines
Bell peppers
Spinach
Kale
Cherries
Potatoes
Grapes (imported)

Clean Fifteen:
Onions
Avocados
Sweet corn
Pineapple
Mango
Sweet peas
Asparagus
Kiwi
Cabbage
Eggplant
Cantaloupe
Watermelon
Grapefruit
Sweet potato
Honeydew melon

  1. Thanks for posting these lists! I read something like this before, but couldn't remember all that was on it. I think I'll put them with my grocery lists/coupons to help me remember too. -ty

  2. This is great! I haven't been able to look at blogs in the last few weeks, so I am catching up. Thanks for this list! It is going right on my fridge!
